Marubeni Energy Corporation, which started its business in 1976, celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. Serving an essential role in the energy business of general trading company Marubeni Corporation, Marubeni Energy Corp. has engaged in selling petroleum products in Japan since its establishment. In 2004, our company received a capital injection from Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K., one of the major petroleum refiners and marketing companies in Japan, to enhance our capability to supply petroleum in a stable manner.
A decrease in population, broader introduction of energy savings, and a shift to alternative energies in recent years have led to a decline in petroleum demand in Japan. However, under such market conditions, petroleum remains an important major energy source. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, petroleum has started to regain a favorable reputation for its ease of procurement, storage and transportation. The central government’s Basic Energy Plan stipulates that petroleum should continue to be utilized as an essential energy source in the future.
With the industrial environment undergoing great change, Marubeni Energy Corp. and its group companies will continue to strive to further strengthen their businesses. In the future, our company will work to maintain and expand our supply chains to ensure the stable supply of petroleum for the enrichment of people’s daily lives, and to fulfill our social responsibilities. We also aim at being a corporate group that can gain the trust and support of our customers, clients and business partners.
